Who are the Lions? We are a group of ordinary people who come together to raise funds for local, national and international charities and projects. Fundraising made fun! Staging events like shuffleboard and casino evenings, a knit-in, the carnival procession and various other activities throughout the year gives Lions an active social life at the same time as raising funds for vital projects. 80% of the monies raised are used within our community to support local charities and on-going projects. During 2003 we have donated sums to provide equipment for schools, doctors surgeries and individuals whose lives have been much improved. Lions are fully involved in the provision of MedicAlert bracelets and raising the awareness of their importance. The remaining 20% is used to support ongoing work through the Lions Club International. Amongst other projects, this organisation supports The Street Children programme, working in partnership with UNICEF to deliver education, vocational training and shelter to children living on the streets and the support of vulnerable families enabling them to provide for their children. This work takes place in Brazil, India, Romania and the UK, amongst other countries. Lions Clubs International are also significantly involved in strategies to prevent sight disorders, both in this country and around the globe. Without your support your local branch and Lions Club International would be unable to participate in these projects and we value your contribution highly.
