Let all of us gardeners and allotment holders who have had a successful year with their vegatables give thanks to God.  If possible please attend a thanksgiving service taking some of your produce along with you ( I understand that these crops are then passed on to local charities ).  Whilst on this subject if you know of any pensioners that might be glad of a few runner beans or tomato's ( organically grown ) then please contact me. Andy will pass on my E-mail and/or 'phone number.

It is good to hear about successes in the garden this year, lets forget about the failures - runner beans for example.  I had a good crop of garlic, shallots and chilli peppers  (I have never had success with them before.)  This year my outdoor tomatoes have been better than the greenhouse ones, I will never have to make green tomato chutney (yuck) ever again.   I also grew an Italian variety of courgettes and they have been much more successful than the usual ones.

Well done for your apples etc., this year. How lucky you are to have an apple tree.

Our daughter planted 2 packets of tomato seeds early this year and they ALL grew up.
We had 11 plants and they kept quite a lot, but obviously had to give away many plants.
We both grew them in tubs using grow bag soil. Andrea put more plants per tub than us and they have all been grown outside as neither of us have a greenhouse. Ours have done better as we only had one plant per tub. So far we ourselves have picked about 30 lb (Gardener's Delight). Very pleased with them. I have frozen some and cooked some yesterday for sauce.
I think they are coming to an end now, especially if the weather changes. A neighbour gave us some Victoria Plums a week ago which I have stewed and frozen for the Christmas period. Really nice to have something from the garden at that time of year.

I had hoped to grow Spinach in a tub to see if it worked, but what with one thing and another we never got round to it. Ken had to put in a new path and some driveway work out front this year. We decided to put some ornamental grasses in and still have some to go into tubs.

How has your garden grown this year? Obviously the main talking point for gardeners has been the drought. There has been lots of publicity recently about how we might have to start growing different types of plants in our gardens due to climate change and lack of rain. What I have found interesting is that this year the public have cut back on their water usage when urged to do so.

In my garden "successes" this year have been apples (lots and lots of them), greenhouse tomatoes and cucumbers, geraniums, outdoor cherry tomatoes, pansies, strawberries (in tubs and pots), passion flowers, lavender and all the herbs; "failures" have been runner beans, raspberries, dahlias, greenhouse peppers and morning glories. How has it been on your patch, I would be interested to hear.
