Summer
holidays are here at last
It’s time to jet away to warmer climes,
relax, soak up the sun, pile on a few pounds and try new
activities you wouldn’t dream of doing at home.
Getting to your destination is often the
worst part, especially with bored children. By the time you have
arrived, your limbs have seized up, you remember what it is you
knew you would forget to bring and the kids are screaming.
Perhaps a few exercises to do on the plane, or in the car may
help with the first problem:
Whilst sitting, try to move your feet and
ankles. Point and stretch your toes and circle your ankles round
in both directions. Move up to the knees and gently swing them
slowly back and forth, if you’re in economy, good luck!
Use a small cushion or rolled up towel to
support your lumbar curve. Roll your shoulders round and shrug
them to your ears whilst breathing in, and breathe out to
release. Finally, gently and slowly roll the neck from side to
side, avoiding any backward movement.
Stretching your fingers out as far as you can
a few times and opening your jaw to stretch the facial muscles
can also alleviate tension.
Whilst on the beach, avoid too much time in
one position sunbathing, move around frequently. Wearing flip
flops non stop is also not a great idea, as the reduced shock
absorption and lower heels can aggravate foot, knee, hip and
lower back problems.
Tip:
Most importantly, relax and enjoy yourself !
