Members present at our 18th January 2008 meeting heard a most
interesting and amusing talk by Billy Elliott from W.A.D.A.R.S.
Worthing And District Animal
Rescue Service our local charity for helping lost or injured animals.
Billy told us about his adventures in rescuing cats from steeples, swans in the
high street, sheep on the Downs, tarantula spiders in a flat and an enormous 10
foot snake from a local "squat". The talk provoked lots of laughter but also gave us an understanding
of how important an organisation W.A.D.A.R.S. are. Whilst funds/donations are
always welcome (Billy told us the running costs are £200,000 p.a.) equally
important are volunteers to "foster" rescued animals. An impromptu "whip round"
in the hall raised £30 to help Billy and his colleagues in their important work. |
