"what is going on at the Chalk Pit?"

I have received e-mails asking "what is going on at the Chalk Pit?"

The Chalk Pit is to the right of the car park at the top of Mill Road in North Lancing. It is a nature reserve.

The Chalk Pit is very popular with walkers and locals who have noticed that sections of the fencing is missing and that the area generally is a bit of a mess.

Any more information about this gratefully received!

Vandalism of the Fence at the Chalk Pit,

Very little of the beautiful rustic fence at the Chalk Pit at the top of McIntyres field is left. Over the last three weeks vandals have almost completely demolished the beautiful fence and burnt it. I have reported it to the Police and Adur watch, but the problem continues and I suspect the Dew Pond may be the next target. The police say that if enough people ring in to complain they may be able help. Please phone 0845 6070999 and report your feelings. I am so sad to see one of our last areas of natural beauty despoiled in this manner.

There was another gathering last night.....beer cans etc all over and more arriss rails down and partially burnt. Won`t be any fence left soon.

More importantly the fire was still aflame at 7.45am and still smouldering at 8.20. and, of course, unattended.

Have we formally informed the police / fire brigade and put them on notice of liability for house damage following a bush fire from this source....I think we should. They might do something then.

The evidence of partially burnt rails lying around the fire smouldering puts paid to any official removal.
