13/09/06  A New Course a New Time

Well a new course has started and a new time. The new intake of puppies has arrived and the new earlier time of 9am seems to be suiting them. Cooler because of the time of day and because they aren’t tired from playing too much in the mornings at home. They are learning very quickly. This is  because the brain and the body are fresh and raring to go. After two weeks the difference in their behaviour is amazing. Those that started by coming in barking because they were unsure of the surroundings are quieter thus making it better for those that might have started. Tyto is showing signs of following in my other dogs footsteps that I had some years ago. He was called Alpha and was a great dog for putting pups at ease and also for showing a more bold puppy that being bolshy wasn’t to be accepted. He did this by ignoring a pup if they were ott and by the following week they would have remembered not to and would be much nicer to him. It looks like Tyto will be the same. He doesn’t like pushy pups, even though he is still one himself at 10 months. So, the second week on of the course and those that were a bit barky the first time were calmer on greeting him and those that were a bit wary were happier to say hello to him. A lovely start. Lets hope it continues. No reason not to if the owners keep up their training from day to day, which of course we hope they do. The more training that is put in the quicker the learning.

I was amazed by a comment made to me this week, by another dog owner up the Manor. They told me that the Manor ‘was not the place to be doing training!’ As far as I am concerned it is the perfect place as all dog owners should train their dogs wherever they go! How else will the dog know that they need to be good everywhere?
