Autumn tips from

Now that September is here remember that
when the kids go back to school it will be very peaceful for you but
not the dog. Make sure you spend time with him/her so that they don't
feel neglected. After all, the kids have played and hopefully
interacted nicely with the dog during the holidays. If anyone asks
tell them you are only doing what a dutiful owner does and it is part
of the daily routine. (This is when you are sitting on the floor or
settee reading a book or watching the TV with an arm casually round
the dog.) :-)
When out in the car with the dog
remember that the sun is still warm and to make sure the windows are
left open a bit and that the car is in the shade. Leave some water in
the car. If you're worried about it being spilt buy one of those non
spill water bowls from any decent pet shop. Also, when in the pet
shop, invest in some carpet powder that can be used to get rid of
fleas etc. Especially if the weather turns chilly and you want to put
the heating on. Fleas love central heating, so now is the time to
zap the little darlings.
When out exercising the dog and
yourself, watch for the last of the grass darts that can get into the
dogs coat. If the dog starts scratching, then this is the dreaded
harvest mite that is in all grassy areas, so if a red patch appears,
usually around the area near the base of the tail, clean with salt
water daily to sooth and heal.
Enjoy the last of the summer and look
forward to lovely walks in the Autumn.
