‘Good Shepherd Sunday" from Father Tony Lovegrove at Holy Family Catholic Church, Lancing

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK ARCHIVE

For many churches the fourth Sunday of Easter is Good Shepherd Sunday.  Jesus speaks of himself in John's gospel, in contrast to the leaders who criticised him for healing on the sabbath a man born blind, as the Good Shepherd.  In talking about leadership in terms of a shepherd Jesus highlights the qualities of care, concern, courage and love.  Catholics are praying that their cardinals will elect a man with those qualities who will be their Pope in the years ahead.  The nation should pray that May's election will result in a government with the same qualities.
